One extended journey through the Land Down Under is being halted days after the fatal incident of an older lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a isolated coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the party for a rest. The ship left without her and returned later that day after the personnel discovered the lady was missing.

A major rescue mission discovered her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with police and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that guests and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the island after an organised outing without my parent".
