Catherine's Annual Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
